Organize property records, access, and existing reports before your Cleveland lead inspection appointment.
Give the inspector a complete starting point
Tell CLEInspection what you need to complete, which units are involved, and whether you have previous lead reports, recent work, or a City notice. Preparation helps the inspector understand the property as it is; it should not conceal conditions or substitute for the required inspection.
Gather property details
Keep the address, unit designators, legal owner, and owner contact details together. Cleveland’s published application checklist includes rental registration information, parcel number, construction year, owner and assessor email addresses, and the applicable report and supporting documentation.
Send existing records rather than guessing at missing information. If a duplex uses different street addresses or unit names, explain that before the visit so the appointment covers the intended units.
Coordinate access with occupants
- Confirm the appointment with the person providing access.
- Tell the inspector which units are occupied or vacant.
- Identify locked rooms, shared areas, or access restrictions.
- Arrange access to the areas included in the agreed scope.
- Share a day-of contact number and entry instructions.
Discuss tenant notice and entry arrangements with the owner or property manager. Scheduling an appointment does not itself give permission to enter an occupied unit.
Share previous testing and work history
Send prior assessments, laboratory results, repair documentation, and relevant City correspondence. If work followed an earlier assessment, identify what was completed and by whom. Cleveland’s application guidance asks for contractor information when cleaning or remediation preceded the inspection.
An existing report can help establish the next step. It does not automatically eliminate the need for another inspection or clearance examination.
Ask before starting repairs
If you see peeling paint or another concern, tell the inspector and ask how it affects the planned service. Work that disturbs potentially lead-containing materials can require qualified practices. This checklist is not a repair or cleaning protocol.
